Mamta Patel MD is a board-certified Ophthalmologist with fellowship training and specialization in Vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. She has been a native Texan since the age of three. Dr. Mamta Patel comes from a long line of physicians. Her three maternal uncles are physicians in India. Her sister is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Dallas, TX. In addition, her brother-in-law is a cardiologist in Dallas, TX.
Currently, Dr. Patel’s focus is Retinal Surgery (medical and surgical retinal diseases) at Vision Quest. She is also an experienced Refractive (LASIK/PRK) and Cataract Surgeon. Dr. Patel specializes in diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, ocular (eye) trauma, and many other diseases of the retina. She has published research in macular holes and diabetic retinopathy. She has also been a speaker at the American Society of Retina Specialists, as well as other academic meetings.
She is well loved by her patients for her kindness and compassion, as well as her experience and skill. Dr Patel utilizes the latest technology in lasers and other surgical procedures for the benefit of her patients.
Dr. Patel graduated Valedictorian of her high school in Houston TX. She was an Endowed Academic Scholar who graduated with honors and a double major in Biology and Chemistry at Houston Baptist University. She completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, with additional certification in Clinical Bioethics. She then went on to an Internal Medicine internship at the University of Texas, Houston, followed by an Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas, Galveston. Finally, she had two Vitreoretinal surgery fellowships at the National Retina Institute in Baltimore, MD and the Retina Consultants of Alabama in Birmingham. She was granted a Teaching Faculty position with the University of Alabama Department of Ophthalmology at Birmingham. Here, she had an opportunity to teach young Ophthalmology physicians at the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital. Finally, she was in private practice in Birmingham, AL, and then McAllen, TX, for fifteen years before joining the Vision Quest family in 2017. She intends to make Dallas her permanent home.
